Desert Jeep Safari
What is a Desert Jeep safari ?
Probably the fastest way to explore the wonders of the desert, a jeep safari
offers a comprehensive tour which is quick and comfortable. An open jeep is
considered ideal as it allows you to feast your eyes on the breathtaking
landscape.
Where to go ?
In India, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur (>pg 138, 139) in Rajasthan are the hot
spots for desert jeep safaris and the ideal season to set out on such a holiday
is between September and March. The duration of the safari is flexible, based on
the need of the traveller.
What you need to know ?
Jeep safaris are usually planned for a minimum of 4 people and are
customised. A guide is provided during the entire trip. Camps are chosen with
care so that your desert holiday experience is complete. Often the jeep driver
is himself the guide. If the trip extends beyond a day, accommodation is
provided in tented camps. The jeep, food and equipment are all part of the
package cost. Most jeep safari operators route journeys through the desert in
such a manner that you are close to the villages and get to visit hamlets where
you can see traditional craftsmen at work.
They also organise stopovers at some of the forts and palaces that Rajasthan
is so famous for.
